Let's peel the onion a bit on pricing
The Negawatt family of products and services will include a host off products not currently available on the market ~ all capable of achieving cost, energy savings and ease of use unparallel in previous DR or DM scenarios. Products will include:
>Load shedding with verifiable feedback
>Load center switching
>Energy flow restrictors
>Energy leak detectors and plugs
>Thermostats (PCT - programmable communicating thermostats)
>Metering, sub-metering, and sub-sub-metering - and further "down to the light bulb"
>Energy analysis of other products used for Negawatt Generation (for example
Negawatt technology can determine the difference (Delta) of window tinting has on
cooling costs, or a new filter has on a pool pump).
>Data frames placed within the home for touch screen menu control, real-time
information, convenience (also wireless remote control panels). These devices can
also show month-to-date billing status.
>Kilowatt to Dollar conversion devices and pricing table
>"Traffic Cop" switching hubs (directing power to or from self generated solar or wind,
distributed generation or distributed storage, vehicle, or grid) for electrical routing
power cost
>Intelligent registers for HVAC "tweaking"
>Billing detail for customers similar to phone billing detail
>Sub metering of commercial units by department or employee
>Grid purchase decision based on time of day billing, peak, off peak and shoulder rate
levels
>Remote storage decision logic - use, save, sell or buy

That's quite an ambitious list!
The heart of the program is the web-based Negawattinc.com customer profile. This system, working under proprietary software development utilizing XML M2M protocols and being Internet access agnostic, will offer the consumer a system comparable to what currently sells for thousands of dollars per home. Access to the program will be free to the customer, and in fact will become a revenue generating program thus encouraging the consumer to maintain and develop the aspects of the Negawatt network components. The more system components deployed and energy saved, the more services of the Negawatt server system are used, and the more the account grows. The growth can be in:
Cash accrued and paid periodically
Discounts applied to utility bills
Carbon credits issued for becoming carbon neutral
Savings applied to credit card purchased for energy programs
Additional Negawatt peripherals delivered as bonuses
The complexity of reducing the customer's dependence on the grid, slowing the turning the wheel of the meter (and in some cases turning it backwards!), and making decisions on rate billing issues, will be a seemless function of the Negawatt system. Stopping the meter (becoming energy sustainable) is just the start for the truly efficient customer, one with an investment in PV, wind, or remote generation. The ability to "stop meters" and relieve the delivery of power from the grid when utilities' generation is stressed is the magic of the advanced Negawatt logic and customer/utility relationship
